Lindholm Forced to Retire in Latvia
22 July 2024
Hyundai Motorsport N team’s Emil Lindholm and Reeta Hämäläinen had to retire from the WRC Tet Rally Latvia on special stage 14 due to an accident. The duo will not continue the rally on Sunday.

Special stage 14 of the Latvian WRC proved to be the end for Hyundai’s Emil Lindholm and Reeta Hämäläinen. Early in the stage, the rear corner of their Hyundai hit a sandbank, breaking the rear tire and suspension, which forced them to retire from the rally. At the time of their retirement, they were in fourth place in the WRC2 class.

The Finnish duo’s rally was overshadowed by the sad news that Reeta Hämäläinen’s mother had passed away on Friday morning.

- Such news was a shock and a tragedy. On behalf of myself, my family and our team, condolences to Reeta and her family. She showed incredible courage and did a great job under difficult circumstances, Lindholm says.

Lindholm and the Hyundai Motorsport N team decided on Saturday evening that they would not continue the rally on Sunday.

- In these circumstances, we no longer saw it as reasonable to continue the rally. Our thoughts are elsewhere, Lindholm reminded.
