The defining moments of the Finnish Rally Championship 2021 series will be resolved next weekend in Kokkola. Emil Lindholm and Reeta Hämäläinen, who are competing with TGS Worldwide's Škoda Fabia R5 Evo, will start the rally only one point away from the top spot.
The Finnish Rally Championship Series 2021 will culminate next weekend in the last round of the season in Kokkola. In the two-day Kokkola UA 60th anniversary rally, increased Finnish Championship points will be awarded and the SM1-class champion will be resolved.
The spirit of the game in terms of class championship is clear: if Lindholm is ahead of Mikko Heikkilä and Teemu Asunmaa, he will be the next Finnish champion.
"That's how it goes. But if the winner of the rally is someone who is eligible to get Finnish Championship points and comes from outside of our trio, it means that me or Mikko (Heikkilä) will be the new champion. The assumption is that the fastest of us three takes the championship. On Sunday we will know”, Lindholm says.
Lindholm says everything is good for the upcoming event. The test day preparing for the rally was already driven a week ago on Wednesday.
“The car is ready to strike and because of that we had time to find a good and comfortable feeling to our driving on the test day. We tried different rubber compound tyres from MRF Tyres and everything is ok. In the upcoming rally we will have three international cars, which are preparing for the Finnish World Rally Championship, starting in front of us and that's fine. It makes the game fair for us three. None of us has to clean the road so it doesn’t harm or benefit anyone”, Lindholm reminds.
Lindholm says he will head to the Saturday’s Finnish Championship final to drive his own driving.
“It has been our strategy that has worked well in the Finnish Rally Championships rounds, and that is why we are implementing it in the last rally of the season. We have all the shots in the game to do our own best. Let’s see if it will be enough. The important thing is that you can say afterwards that you did everything you could. And if it is not enough then I will congratulate the winner”, Lindholm says.
Kokkola UA's 60th anniversary rally starts from Kokkola in the Saturday afternoon at 15:45. The program for the first day of the rally includes three special stages run twice, which the latter ones will be driven in the dark. The opening day has a total of 56.02 special stage kilometres.
The rally will continue on Sunday at 8:05. The program has four special stages with a total length of 74.52 km. The day will include the longest (22.88 km) special stage of the rally, which will be running twice. The first competitors are expected to the finish line in Kokkola starting from 13:45.
