Lindholm had to retire in WRC Rally Estonia
18 July 2021
Toksport WRT’s Emil Lindholm and Reeta Hämäläinen had to retire in WRC Rally Estonia on Saturday's third special stage, Raanitsa 1 (22.76 km), due to a rear wheel coming unattached. At the time Lindholm was third in the WRC3-class.

Toksport WRT's Škoda driving Emil Lindholm’s and Reeta Hämäläinen’s third day of the rally did not go as planned. At the first special stage of the morning Lindholm suffered a puncture, which dropped the Finnish driver to the 13th place in the overall standings and from second place to third place in the WRC3-class.

Two special stages later the Finnish duo’s rally ended on SS12 Raanitsa 1, 16.8 km from the start.

”We were doing well on the special stage until there was a long continuous turn to the left coming up. Our right back tyre of the car hit the edge of the driving groove on the road so that the front of our car turned to the right and there was nothing we could do after that. The car rolled over from its roof back to its wheels. The speed wasn’t that fast that I was already pressing the start button and tried to put the first gear on until I noticed that the right back tyre of our car had come off”, Lindholm tells.

”A deep groove had been dug in the road, which, however, ended in the middle of the turn, and did not stop the front of our car from moving to the right. The rolling happened in a really slow speed. The car itself remained in perfect driving condition”, Lindholm says.

After the first two days of the rally, Lindholm was second in the WRC3-class and 10th in the overall results. Lindholm, first timer in WRC Rally Estonia, was driving fast and surely.

”The first two days of the rally went according to plan: the car works really well as does our teamwork with Reeta. On one special stage we jumped an extra long jump and after that I took the rest of the driving a little more cautiously. I was really happy with my driving and my car. Us having to retire is unfortunate and annoying, of course. When I watched the situation from the video afterwards I don't know what I should have done differently in that turn”, Lindholm said.
