Lindholm to use plan B in Pohjanmaa rally
17 June 2021
The Finnish Rally Championship series will continue this weekend with a two-day event, SM Pohjanmaa Rally, in Seinäjoki. TGS Worldwide’s Škoda Fabia R5 Evo driving Emil Lindholm and Reeta Hämäläinen, who are fourth in the SM1-class, will go on the route with starting number four.

The Covid-19 pandemic, which is severe in India, changed the team GRX’s preliminary plans for the SM Pohjanmaa Rally. Lindholm will have to use plan B for the weekend's competition, because MRF Tyres factory in India was unable to deliver the latest development version of its gravel tyre to Finland, due to the bad Covid-19 situation.

Just over a week ago Italy’s Paolo Andreucci won the Italian Gravel Rally Championship, driven as part of the WRC Sardinia, by far with a similar rally tyre.

Despite the setback Lindholm and his co-driver Reeta Hämäläinen will start the TGS Worldwide’s Škoda Fabia R5 Evo on the route with confident minds.

”Due to the circumstances this is what happened and there’s nothing that can be done about it. We have a good tyre in use for this weekend but not the version we would have liked to compete with”, Lindholm says.

A year ago the Pohjanmaa Rally ended in a disappointment for Lindholm.

”We have put last year behind us and now there is a new rally ahead of us. I guess the same place we retired on last year is on the route again. Past situations won’t make me lose any sleep”, Lindholm reminds.

The route of the SM Pohjanmaa Rally is heading to a new direction this year from Seinäjoki and that suits Lindholm well.

“I think new roads are always welcomed. It is a very positive thing that we get to drive the rally purely from the notes. We are aiming to be in the top five and promise to try our best once again”, Lindholm says.

The SM Pohjanmaa Rally will start in Seinäjoki tomorrow, Friday night, at 19:01. The evening program includes two special stages with a total length of 32.76 km.

The rally will continue on Saturday morning starting at 10:01. The program of the day includes six special stages with a total length of 89.02 km. The first competitors are expected to be at finish line in Seinäjoki on Saturday evening starting at 18:20.
